VARIETY OF RACING IMPROVED AND ENHANCED FOR 2008 SEASON AT CONCORD MOTORSPORT PARK
CONCORD, N.C. - As you enter Cabarrus County from almost any direction you’ll see the highway sign reading “Welcome to Cabarrus County, The Center of American Motorsports”.
Concord Motorsport Park offers a 2008 schedule that fulfills that promise. The popular racing venue this season offers a variety of flavors of motor racing and events. The NASCAR Whelen All-American Series (NWAAS) on the half-mile TriOval presents the familiar Town & Country Ford Late Model Stock Cars as the feature division on Saturday nights coupled with JRD Earthworks Limited Late Models, Coca-Cola Pure Stocks and Fast & Furious Fours and a diversity of visiting traveling shows this season.
Racing fans can also choose from INEX RPM Race Cars Legends and Bandoleros on the separate quarter-mile oval on most Friday nights and the USAC Ford Focus Midgets Wednesday nights this summer!
The “guest stars” on the half-mile facility this season include the U.A.R.A. Stars Late Models, the U. S. A. R. Hooter’s Pro Cup Greased Lightning Southern Tour, The A. S. A. Southern Asphalt Tour and the A. S. A. Pro Racing Series Late Model Tour.
Shows of different flavors include the second annual Lucas Oil Pro Pulling Series General Tire Carolina Super Truck and Tractor Pull, the debut of the Old School Racing Champion’s Tour, The Pebble Pushers Custom Car and Truck Show and the season finale 8th Annual John Blewett III Memorial North South Shootout for Modified Cars.
The action on the track returns to Time Warner Cable Television this season as all Whelen All-American Series events will be delayed-broadcast in edited form in the “Wilburn Auto Body presents Race Night at Concord Motorsport Park” TV series Wednesday evenings on local access channels in much of the metro area. The program may be viewed on Time Warner Cable Channel 9 in Union County, Channel 15 in Richmond and Anson Counties and Channel 19 in Cabarrus and Stanly Counties.
All NWAAS events will consist of 20 laps features for Fast & Furious Fours, 30 laps for Pure Stocks, 40 laps for Limited Late Models and 75 laps for Late Model Stock Cars and the occasional visiting tour event, some of which are still being negotiated.
The season opener for the INEX Legends and Bandoleros on the quarter-mile oval Saturday March 8th was postponed until a date to be determined as much needed rain delayed construction efforts. Everything should be in place for the March 14th and 15th Legends and Bandoleros double-header weekend.
Action on the tricky half-mile TriOval cranks up in the afternoon of Sunday March 16th with Open House and Open Practice. Gates open 12:30 PM with the divisions rotating practice from 1:30 until 5:00 PM. Grandstand admission is free.
Town & Country Ford of Charlotte hosts Opening Night 2008 for the NASCAR Whelen All American Series Saturday March 22nd. Grandstand gates open at 5:30 with racing at 7:30 PM.
