SUPER LATE MODELS END COMPETITION AT CONCORD
The management of Concord Motorsport Park has announced that the Super Late Model Cars that comprised the Big 10 Series features will not be competing at the speedway beyond the 2005 season.
For the last three seasons the speedway has posted purses far in excess of half a million dollars in the attempt to grow the Super Late Model division. In 2005 the number of cars competing during the first and middle portions of the season were acceptable but the dramatic drop in entries for the final two events of the year, including the very disappointing field of cars for the Asphalt World Championship has led the management to make the very difficult decision to close the division.
The number of fans needed to support the series didn't materialize over the three seasons, either. The numbers attending the Big 10 Series which featured the Super Late Models did not vary greatly from the number of fans attending the traditional Saturday night NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series while the purses offered were over $30,000.00 higher.
In the final analysis, the economics were not in place to continue the series.
