Bobby Measmer, Jr. scores twin wins Saturday at Concord Speedway

CONCORD, N.C. – Bobby Measmer Jr. scored wins in two features in the Whelen All-American Series competition Saturday night at Concord Speedway, taking trophies in both the Hutch BSR Pro Late Model and the Town & Country Ford Late Model Division races.   Jeff Melton claimed the win in the Coca-Cola Pure Stocks Division and Chad Miller in the Tim Marburger Honda Fast & Furious Fours Division race.

Daniel Johnson led the Pro Late Model field to the green, but lost it to Matt Brooks when the field restarted on lap five following the first caution of the race.  Caution one waived after contact between Michael Pilla and Cooper Faassen sent Pilla hard into the wall just past the start/finish line.  Brooks lost the lead and three spots to Measmer while battling for the lead on lap thirty-three.  The second caution of the night waived on lap fifty-two due to fluid on the track.  Measmer took home the victory followed by first-time competitor and pole sitter with a new track record, Daniel Hemric in second and Cooper Faasen in third.  While this is young Hemric’s first run in Pro Late Model, he earned four championships in 2009 Legends Pro racing: Concord Speedway Pro Champion, Summer Shootout Pro Champion, North Carolina Pro Champion and INEX National Pro Champion! The finish also shook up the ppoints with Cooper Faassen moving past Daniel Johnson by two points.

Bobby Measmer, Jr. also  won the Town & Country Ford Late Model Division race after battling Steve Ackerly side-by-side for the position for the last five laps with Jay Payne battling for second almost making it three-wide on the last lap.  Measmer took the lead from David Miller early in the 40 lap race and ever gave up the lead despite two restarts and Ackerly on his bumper for most of the race.  The first caution of the night waived on lap nineteen when Terry Hoggard spun, and the second waived on lap 27 when Tony Pasquarello spun.  Ackerly finished second with Payne in third.

Jeff Melton claimed his ninth victory the Coca-Cola Pure Stocks Division race this season after leading 25 of the 30 race laps. Melton took the lead from Bryan Thomas on lap seven and was able to maintain the position as Thomas and Randy McAnulty battled for the second spot most of the race. This was Melton’s 48th career win at Concord Speedway.  McAnulty finished second followed by Thomas in third.

Chad Miller won the Tim Marburger Honda Fast & Furious Fours Division race in his first return to the driver’s seat after missing several races because of shoulder surgery.  Miller passed Del Stewart on the first lap as the #14 fell back through the field to the fourth spot after starting in the first position.  This was the fourth win of the season for Miller.  Barry Canter finished second followed by Brian Irby in third.

The second annual Robbie Wells Memorial sponsored by Miracle Dental Center will be Saturday, Oct. 10.  This also marks the last race of the 2009 season for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Weekly Series. Registration opens at 2:00 PM, pit gates at 2:30, practice at 3:30, Grandstand opens at 5:30, time trials at 5:45, racing at 7:30. Grandstand general admission: $12 adults.  Children age 11 and under are free with ticketed adult.

Saturday October 31st The U A R A Stars will make another appearance at Concord Speedway and Friday and Saturday November 5th and 6th marks the seventh annual North South Shootout on the TriOval.  Two-day general admission tickets are available online at northsouthshootout.com or at the speedway office.
