MELTON ROLLS TO THIRD CONCORD WIN OF SEASON

CONCORD, N.C. – Jeff Melton of Concord rolled this his third win of the season Saturday in the 50-lap NASCAR Town and Country Ford late model stock feature race at Concord Motorsport Park.

Other winners were: Jay Payne of Thomasville in the 40-lap JRD Earthworks limited late model feature; Chad Allmon of Mt. Pleasant in the 30-lap Coca Cola pure stock feature; Tracy Mullis of Monroe in the 20-lap fast and furious fours feature and Devon Haun of Hiddenite in the 35-lap pro challenge race.

Chuck Crump of Star jumped from the second spot to the lead at the start, but as he completed the first lap a mechanical problem sent him to the pits. Melton inherited the lead and fended off a steady challenge from defending champion Shane Brafford of Concord to score the win. Chad Mullis of Mint Hill finished second with Monroe’s Shaun Mangum third. Payne Pickles of Live Oak, Fla. was fourth and Brafford fifth.

Kenneth Cook of Concord led the first 27 laps of the limited late model feature before Payne raced past. He went on to score his fourth-consecutive victory. Mike Terry of Charlotte finished second with Raymond Theiss of Concord third. Brian Conforth and Bobby Measmer Jr., both of Concord, rounded out the top five.

Billy Symanski Jr. of Mint Hill led the first 23 laps of the pure stock feature and looked like he would score his fourth-straight win. However, a power steering pump issues would send Symanski to the pits giving the lead to Allmon. Allmon raced to his fourth win of the year. Steve Irvin of Concord and Charles Hutto of Monroe finished second and third.

Mullis drove his “Enforcer”-themed car to his fifth win of the season. Jeremy Whitman of Lexington was second with Nikki Long of Kannapolis third.

Haun won the first-ever pro-challenge series race at the speedway. Concord’s Trevor Farbo was second with Terry Horak of Myrtle Beach, S.C. third.

This Saturday it’s Whelen Night at the races. Twin 35-lap feature for the late model stocks will be on the docket.
